This frosting is the only thing my nephew will eat on his birthday cake. His Grandmother has been making it for the family for many years, and it continues to be everyone's favorite.

 

6 Tbsp butter

6 1 oz. squares unsweetened chocolate

1 pound (4 cups) powdered sugar

1/2 tsp. salt

2/3 cup milk

2 tsp. pure vanilla

 

Melt chocolate and butter in saucepan over low heat. Using an electric hand mixer, blend in remaining ingredients until smooth. Place saucepan over bowl of ice water and continue beating until frosting is smooth and glossy. If frosting is too thick, add small amount of water to achieve desired consistency.

Frost cake and chill before serving.
